During the harrowing side quest titled The Hunt in Cyberpunk 2077, players assist former detective River Ward in tracking down a dangerous serial killer named Anthony Harris. While investigating Randy's trailer, players uncover a hidden laptop containing critical clues about the victim's location. Successfully obtaining Harris's IP address serves as a key optional objective that showcases V's Netrunning capabilities and streamlines the investigation.
Finding the Laptop and Unlocking Access
To begin the process of tracing the network signal, players must search beneath the bed inside Randy's room to locate the concealed computer. Accessing the terminal requires either a sufficient Intelligence attribute check or finding the correct password hidden nearby. Interacting with the record player in the bedroom reveals the password Liberum Arbitrium, allowing instant access to the system.
Navigating the Net Files and Secret Media
Once logged into the terminal, players need to navigate through the Messages and Files sections before clicking on the Net tab. Selecting the image on the site reveals additional links, where locating the missing media file labeled ATT_CART_VIDEO becomes necessary. Returning to the local Files directory to play this video unlocks the underlying digital trail associated with Anthony Harris.
Extracting the IP Address via Hacking
After reviewing all required files on the network, exiting the computer interface triggers a special conversation dialogue with River Ward. If V possesses a high enough Intelligence stat, a specific hacking option becomes available to pinpoint the network origin. Completing the quick hacking sequence successfully yields the IP address, allowing the team to narrow down the target's origin.
Impact on the Quest and Skill Requirements
While extracting the IP address is an optional sub-task, doing so provides valuable narrative context and satisfying netrunner roleplay. Players without the required Intelligence attribute can still complete the quest by analyzing the braindance sequences in the subsequent phases.
