Exploring the massive kingdom of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild requires picking up a vast array of weapons, bows, and shields to survive. Because your starting carrying capacity is incredibly limited, managing your gear efficiently quickly becomes one of the most vital tasks in the early game. Expanding these storage slots requires tracking down a specific character and gathering rare items hidden across the entire world map.

Meeting Hestu and Finding Initial Upgrades

To begin expanding your carrying capacity, you must first locate a large, maraca-playing Korok named Hestu. His very first location is along the main road leading from the Dueling Peaks Stable toward Kakariko Village. Before he can assist you, you must complete a short side quest to retrieve his stolen maracas from a nearby group of monsters.

After completing this initial task, Hestu will allow you to upgrade your weapon, bow, or shield slots a couple of times. He will soon explain that he needs to return home, forcing you to track him down elsewhere as you advance through your journey. Finding his temporary stops ensures you can continue upgrading your slots before reaching the late game areas.

Tracking Hestu to Regional Stables

Once he leaves the road to Kakariko Village, Hestu will make temporary stops at specific stables across Hyrule on his way north. Players can usually find him hanging around the Riverside Stable, Wetland Stable, or Woodland Stable depending on which path they choose to take. He will offer several more slot expansions at these locations before moving to his permanent home.

If you manage to miss him at these intermediate stables, there is no need to worry about losing access to your rewards. He will eventually transition automatically to his final destination once you progress far enough into the main story. Managing your gear carefully during this transition phase will help keep your best items ready for unexpected battles.

Reaching the Korok Forest Destination

Hestu’s permanent home is located deep within the Great Hyrule Forest, specifically inside the hidden sanctuary known as the Korok Forest. Reaching this area requires players to successfully navigate the shrouded, foggy pathways of the mysterious Lost Woods. Once you safely arrive at the center of the woods near the Master Sword, Hestu will remain here for the rest of your playthrough.

Visiting him in the forest allows you to maximize your storage potential without any more sudden location changes. Having a reliable spot to unload your collected currencies makes planning your exploration routes much easier. You can comfortably teleport back to this sanctuary whenever your pockets begin to feel overcrowded.

Gathering Seeds and Total Slot Requirements

The unique currency required to secure every single inventory expansion comes in the form of Korok Seeds, which are handed out by hidden forest spirits. There are hundreds of these small puzzles scattered across mountaintops, under rocks, and beneath bridges throughout Hyrule. While you do not need to find every hidden spirit to max out your slots, collecting a substantial number is mandatory.

Each subsequent upgrade within a specific category will demand a higher number of seeds than the previous transaction. Prioritizing weapon slots early on is generally recommended by experienced adventurers since melee tools shatter frequently during intense combat encounters. Balancing your choices between bows and shields ensures Link is perfectly equipped to handle the toughest challenges lurking in the wilds.
